The role of ALF4 revealed after 22 years

ABERRANT LATERAL ROOT FORMATION4 (ALF4) was first described in 1995 by John Celenza and colleagues (link). The gene was identified in 2004 (link), but remained mysterious. Now, 22 years after the first description, we characterise the function of ALF4 in a recent EMBO J paper (link).
